Job Title: Legal Counsel

The Opportunity:

A global energy IPP/super major is looking for a proactive Legal Counsel to join its growing US energy trading team in San Francisco, CA. Reporting to the Head of Legal - USA, you’ll be the second legal hire on the ground, supporting commercial teams (Portfolio Management, Origination, Trading) and internal stakeholders (Risk, Compliance, Credit, Treasury) on a wide range of commercial, regulatory, and corporate legal matters.

Main Responsibilities:

• Draft, review, and negotiate complex commercial agreements (PPAs, ISDAs, EEIs, NDAs, ISO contracts, futures, broker agreements, renewable certificates, carbon credits, guarantees, letters of credit, and service contracts).
• Provide practical legal advice on regulatory compliance and changes impacting the energy sector.
• Identify and manage legal and contractual risks.
• Conduct legal research and manage outside counsel relationships and legal administration.

Experience required:

• JD and admission to the California Bar (or eligibility to practice in CA).
• At least 2 years of transactional experience in-house or at a law firm.
• Solid knowledge of energy law and derivatives preferred.
• Strong drafting, negotiation, and communication skills.
