Position Overview
We are seeking a Criminal Defense Law Clerk to join our Fairfax, Virginia office. This is an excellent opportunity for a third-year law student with demonstrated interest and experience in criminal defense work—particularly those who have participated in a criminal law clinic or similar program.

The Law Clerk will assist attorneys with legal research, drafting motions, reviewing discovery, and preparing case files. The position requires a minimum of 15 on-site hours per week in the Fairfax office.   The Start date for this Clerkship is January 6, 2026.

If the selected candidate performs well in this role, there is an opportunity to transition into a full-time Associate Attorney position upon successful passage of the Virginia Bar Exam.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct legal research and draft memoranda, motions, and other pleadings
  • Assist with trial preparation, including reviewing discovery and organizing exhibits
  • Attend client meetings and court proceedings with supervising attorneys as appropriate
  • Maintain organized case files and manage administrative tasks as assigned
  • Support the criminal defense team in developing strong case strategies
Qualifications
  • Currently a 3L (third-year law student) at an accredited law school
  • Prior experience in criminal defense, preferably through a law school clinic or internship
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent research, analytical, and organizational abilities
  • Professional demeanor and commitment to client confidentiality
  • Flexibility to work within the DMV area and at least 15 hours per week on-site in Fairfax
Compensation and Future Opportunity
  • The Start date for this Clerkship is January 6, 2026.
  • Paid position: $35 per hour
  • 15 hours per week minimum, on-site at Fairfax, VA office 
  • Potential for full-time Associate Attorney position following successful performance and passage of the Virginia Bar
