This position provides assistive care to patients. The incumbent facilitates the efficient delivery of patient care, supports the professional role of the licensed staff, and provides support and assistance as directed by licensed staff in rendering basic healthcare to the patient. This position also assists with clerical functions as a multi-skilled auxiliary worker. This position provides direct patient care and may be required to access and administer medications within their scope of practice and according to state law.
Responsibilities include preparing patients for examinations and diagnostic procedures, reporting patient concerns and changes in condition, performing lab tests, acting as a chaperone for health care providers, monitoring and cleaning patient examination rooms, answering telephones, assisting in routine clerical functions, attending mandatory education, performing patient phlebotomies, applying leads and monitoring for diagnostic procedures, assisting with patient transportation, instructing in basic life support, performing IV access, and performing other duties based on department assigned. This position is required to work rotating schedules, which may include variable hours, weekends, nights, and holidays to meet the staffing and patient care demands of a 24/7 complex health system.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities include availability to work variable and rotating shifts, ability to perform essential functions, demonstrated phlebotomy skills, human relation and communication skills, proficiency in the specific clinic's specialty skills, and ability to withstand physical demands.
Qualifications include current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential, one of the following: current Advanced EMT certification, current certification to practice as a Paramedic, current certification as a Certified Medical Assistant, current certification as a Registered Medical Assistant, current certification as a National Certified Medical Assistant, current Clinical Medical Assistant Certification, current certification as a NRCMA - Medical Assistant. Additional license requirements as determined by the hiring department.
Working conditions and physical demands include lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, or otherwise moving patients or objects, exposure to infectious diseases, exposure to dangerous contaminated bodily fluids, blood, used needles and other contaminants.
