Job Description - Coding Specialist III - Outpatient Clinic (PRN) (859984) Job Overview UT Southwestern is seeking a Coding Specialist III for our Outpatient Clinic (PRN). This role involves accurate coding of outpatient accounts using ICD-10 CM and CPT, in line with official guidelines, to support medical necessity and billing accuracy. Key Responsibilities Code retrospective outpatient accounts accurately, ensuring compliance with coding standards. Identify appropriate diagnoses, procedures, modifiers, and secondary diagnoses. Abstract required data elements such as discharge details, procedure dates, and physician information. Review accounts in denial queues and collaborate with the Coding Manager as needed. Determine when physician queries are necessary for clarification and handle documentation issues. Maintain quality and productivity standards set by UT Southwestern. Mentor and train staff on designated coding service lines. Stay updated on coding guidelines and best practices. Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent. At least 3 years of acute hospital-based coding experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Licenses/certifications such as RHIA, RHIT, CCS, COC, CPC, CPC-H, or CIRCC. Preferred Qualifications Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Health Information Management or related field. Experience working remotely (preferred for PRN coders). Cancer Center ancillary coding experience is a plus.
